POLICY

WHAT I CAN OFFER YOU

I can lead policy projects, turning my hand to new issues and coming up to speed quickly. I am familiar with the policy process, and can provide high-quality advice to Ministers, include Te Tiriti analysis, engage with stakeholders, undertake regulatory impact analysis, put together budget bids, and coach and mentor staff.

MY EXPERIENCE

In 2021, I provided policy services to Te Kāhui Tika Tangata - Human Rights Commission, and provided coaching to advisors at Te Taura Whiri i te reo Māori. I also became a mentor with the First Foundation, supporting a young scholar in her university journey over the next four years.

Prior to 2021, my most recent policy experience was with the Ministry of Justice’s Policy Group as a Principal Advisor in the Access to Justice team. In addition to designing and delivering a Te Tiriti training programme, I led work on a review of policy settings for legal aid, and the government response to sexual harassment in the legal profession.

I have also worked in Strategic Policy at the Human Rights Commission, leading projects on the constitutional review in 2013, Māori representation in local government, and structural discrimination in public services.  I wrote submissions on the review of the Foreshore and Seabed Act, the spelling of Whanganui, and the development of a Culture and Identity domain for statistical collection.

Drawing on my background in tertiary education, I have wide experience - and very much enjoy - coaching and mentoring junior staff.  I have supervised both undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as mentoring colleagues new to the public service or more senior roles, and summer interns.
