ABOUT ME
I am passionate about Te Tiriti o Waitangi and human rights, and have been committed to both throughout my career.
I am keen to draw on my wide experience in capability-building (including training), policy, research and writing to help you with your next project.
Please refer to each of the associated tabs on this website for further detail about what I can offer in each of these areas.
EXPERIENCE
Since launching my business in March 2021, I have worked with the Office of the Auditor General, Te Kāhui Tika Tangata - Human Rights Commission, Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori, Tāmaki Makaurau Mana Whenua Forum - Auckland Council, the Indigenising Legal Education project at the University of Otago, Kumete Group, Māori applicants for customary marine title under the Marine and Coastal Area Act 2011 and Pou Tikanga - National Iwi Chairs Forum.
Prior to this, I worked at Te Arawhiti: the Office for Māori-Crown Relations, finalising the Māori-Crown Relations Capability Framework, and advising on capability across the public sector.
Before Te Arawhiti, I was a Principal Advisor in the Ministry of Justice’s Policy Group. In addition to leading a range of policy projects, I designed and delivered a Te Tiriti training programme. The training programme was developed in conjunction with Te Pou Here, Policy Group’s network of Māori staff.
In 2018, I was part of the technical working group advising on an implementation plan for the Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples for Aotearoa.
Since returning to Aotearoa in 2006 from the UK, I have predominantly worked in Te Tiriti or human rights-related areas, including at Te Kāhui Tika Tangata, the Human Rights Commission; the Waitangi Tribunal, and the former Office of Treaty Settlements.

I hold a PhD in Critical and Cultural Theory from Cardiff University in the UK (2005). Prior to that, I earned a Master of Arts (1998) and Bachelor of Arts (1996) majoring in both History and English from Waikato University in New Zealand.
While I was a lecturer at Cardiff University, I also gained a postgraduate certificate in University Teaching and Learning (2006).
