CAPABILITY AND TRAINING
WHAT I CAN OFFER YOU
I can advise and support you and your agency to develop a capability plan as now required under the Public Service Act 2020.
I can also devise a training programme for you, and can deliver Te Tiriti analysis training. Drawing on my previous experience in Policy, my workshop is particularly aimed at policy practitioners, and can be adapted for other audiences. The training covers:
-
What the role of the Crown is in the Te Tiriti relationship
-
Why Te Tiriti analysis is critical for developing sound policy
-
How to embed Te Tiriti at each stage of the policy process (including engagement)
-
How to practically work through a policy problem using a Te Tiriti framework
The workshop can be tailored to suit your particular needs.
MY EXPERIENCE
Between 2021 and 2023, I worked with the Office of the Auditor General, Te Kāhui Tika Tangata - Human Rights Commission and the Tāmaki Makaurau Mana Whenua Forum providing capability support and advice.
Prior to this, I worked at Te Arawhiti: the Office for Māori-Crown Relations, finalising the Māori-Crown Relations Capability Framework, and advising on capability-building across the public sector.
In 2018-19 I designed and delivered a Te Tiriti training programme for the Ministry of Justice’s Policy Group to lift their capability and uphold the Ministry’s Te Haerenga strategy. The training programme was developed in conjunction with Te Pou Here, Policy Group’s network of Māori staff.
Since returning to Aotearoa in 2006 from the UK, I have predominantly worked in Te Tiriti or human rights-related areas, including at Te Kāhui Tika Tangata - Human Rights Commission; the Waitangi Tribunal, and the former Office of Treaty Settlements. In 2018, I was part of the technical working group advising on an implementation plan for the Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples for Aotearoa.
